DE COMETIS

catalogue

Comets are the primary motifs of the “de cometis” series. People observed comets in awe and wonder in ancient times, often seeing them as bad omens. Since comets approach Earth periodically, we can see the past and the future through this cycle. I perceive comets as entities that connect the distant past and the far-off future through their periodic motion.
I use silver leaf and cyanotype print in this series, which, unlike conventional painting materials, share a common characteristic in that their appearances change as time goes by, with images developing through either corrosion or exposure to light. They are in a state of constant flux, influenced by the atmosphere and light.
People saw/see/will see the same comet, regardless of where they were/are/will be in the world. No matter how far they are separated across time and space, their visions fuse together as one. I want to overlay this idea onto the changes in my artwork that may unfold over years, decades, or even centuries.
